Express yourself and pose important questions about sanctuary and asylum through this visual research study

3 min read

Through photography, participants will speak about their experiences of seeking sanctuary in the UK. The photographs will be exhibited at the University.

Study Description

Photovoice is an artistic collaboration with students, staff members and alumni of the 91ÉçÇø who have experiences of seeking Sanctuary in the UK. This includes anybody who is or has been an asylum seeker or those who have or had refugee status in the UK, or whose family members had such status. Participants will take pictures and use their own images as a tool to express their lived experiences related to seeking sanctuary or deconstruct their problems by posing meaningful questions back to the community.

The purpose of this intervention is twofold: first, we aim to showcase the diversity of our community and the value of the support provided by local actors. Second, we want to learn about those members of our community who sought asylum and might have a message to share with the wider community.

What will participants be doing?

Participants will be required to attend two briefing meetings, and be prepared to take photographs with their phones.

Duration

One 3 hour meeting and a 2 hour meeting. Also some extra time to take pictures and think about them.
